Blood pressure is the pressure of the circulating blood against the walls of the blood vessels. This pressure results from the blood which is pumped by heart through circulatory system. This process occurs on an average of 60-100 times per minute.

Types of Blood Pressure:

  1. Low blood pressure -The normal range of blood pressure is 120/90 mm Hg. When the blood pressure  range is less than 90/60 mm Hg it is said to be low blood pressure
  2. High blood pressure- When the blood pressure range is more than 140/90 mm Hg it is called high blood pressure. It is also called Hypertension or “The Silent Killer”.

Causes of high blood pressure:

High Blood pressure develops over a period of time.  The few causes are:

  • Overweight.
  • The physical activity is very negligible.
  • Salt intake is very high.
  • Smoking.
  • High intake of alcohol.
  • High stress.
  • Unhealthy lifestyle.

The other things one should do are to manage his weight, choose healthy lifestyle, and take less stress. One should take low salt in his diet, stop smoking and alcohol.
